Special Function/Correction Officer Training (First Block) |
This program is the core curriculum and the Correctional curriculum for the "Utah Police Officer Basic Training". The training to be delivered provides an excellent foot-in-the-door approach to a law enforcement career. This training is transferable to other in-state police officer training institutions. Areas of study include legal subjects, patrol and criminal investigation procedures, defensive tactics techniques, and CPR/First Aid. An individual completing the program would increase their hire ability as a Police Reserve, Wild Life Conservation, Special Function Officer, or a Correctional Officer in any County Jail or Stat Prison Facility. The individual will also become certifiable and receive a BATC certificate of proficiency.
To qualify for this program, you must be 21 years of age at the time of certification and you must be able to pass a background investigation. Each student must pass an entrance exam before obtaining instructions for the background application. The entrance exam is offered from May to October. To schedule an appointment for the exam, please contact BATC's Assessment Center at 750-3188. Individuals must also have a high school diploma or have evidence of passing a high school equivalency examination.

Law Enforcement Officer Training (Second Block) |
This program completes the remaining hours required toward the "Utah Police Officer Basic Training" program. Most major law enforcement departments require completion of this training before consideration for employment.
The program consists of classroom experience and practical application of law enforcement subjects. Enrollment eligibility is limited to those individuals who have successfully completed the Special Function/Correction Officer Training (first Block) of the police academy.
To qualify for this program, you must be 21 years of age at the time of certification and you must be able to pass a background investigation.
