Emergency Medical Services

Continuing Medical Education Hours

This provides an opportunity for individuals to receive up to 20 hours of continuing medical education. Students are provided a punch card, which allows five, four-hour visits to the current EMT classes. Call John at 750-3098 for dates and topics of classes. Punch card is good for one year.

 

Emergency First Responder

This course presents a study of emergency problems encountered in both medical and trauma situations. It guides the student through practical assessments of these situations and teaches signs, symptoms, and treatment for each situation encountered whether it be at home, at work, or on the road. This course provides a three-year certification.

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) ~ Basic

This is a specialized course designed to offer students basic skills in pre-hospital emergency medical care. Students are trained to the standards set by the Utah Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. USU credit is available only through the BATC EMT course coordinator. Certification and testing fees, bandage pack, student handbook, textbook, BP cuff and class shirt are included in tuition and fees.
Prerequisites: Student must be 18 at the time of certification and hold a current professional level CPR card.

 

Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-I) ~ Intermediate

This is a specialized 70-hour course. It teaches advanced medical skills building upon EMT - Basic knowledge. Some skills that are taught include: advanced patient care techniques, reading EKG rhythms, advanced airway management, medication selection and administration, and IV therapy.
Prerequisites: Student must be EMT - Basic certified for at least one year and hold a current professional level CPR card.

 

First Aid and CPR Re-Certification

Section 1: Register online at www.americanheart.org for update material and the written exam.

Secion 2: Register at BATC ($10) and call 750-3098 to schedule practical exam.

 

Healthcare Provider (CPR)

This program provides students with an understanding and practical skills to perform rescue efforts on adults, children, and infants, who may be choking, not breathing, or in need of CPR. This is the professional level required for the EMT program and for students in need of AED and two-man certification. This course provides a two-year certification through the American Heart Association. Must be registered one week prior to class.

 

Heartsaver AED (CPR)

This program provides students with an understanding and practical skills to perform rescue efforts on adults, children, and infants who may be choking, not breathing, or in need of CPR. Participants also learn to use the automated external defibrillator (AED). This is the level recommended for the community individual. This course provides a two-year certification through the American Heart Association.

 

Heartsaver First Aid

This course will provide training in basic first aid procedures and environmental emergencies. It is to educate lay responders as well as the general public. This course provides a two-year certification through the American Heart Association.

 

Heartsaver First Aid with CPR & AED

Learn to recognize common medical and traumatic emergencies and how to provide basic first aid for each situation. Also learn CPR and AED techniques for adults, children, and infants. Provides a two-year certification through the American Heart Association.
